Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) hosted the Mood Court event or a moot court competition held by the Constitutional Court (MK). A total of 12 selected universities will participate in the prestigious event for the field of legal studies at the national level.
UMS is the host for the central region round which will be held on Wednesday (9/10/2019). “This is the trust of the Constitutional Court, UMS is the host of the Central Mood Court Region. There are 12 selected universities participating in this competition,” said Muchamad Ihsan, Head of the Legal Studies Study Program, Faculty of Law UMS, during a press conference to reporters, Saturday (5/10/2019).
According to the plan, the moot court competition in cooperation between the Constitutional Court and UMS will be held in a Seminar Room at the Siti Walidah UMS Building, Sukoharjo. The 12 universities participating in the central region are the University of Indonesia (UI), Lampung University (Unlam), North Sumatra University (USU), UMS, IAIN Surakarta, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, IAIN Walisongo, Diponegoro University, UNES, UMM, Mulawarman University and Unsoed.
UMS Faculty of Law Lecturer Iswanto added that the moot court competition would discuss or debate Article 359 paragraphs 1 and 2 of Law No. 1/2009 on Aviation which was tested against Article 28 letter f of the Law on public information disclosure.
“This competition will examine and debate whether provisions such as in the Aviation Law which states that the results of an investigation into the cause of an accident should not be used as evidence in court. This is contrary to Article 28 of the Law on Public Information Disclosure,” he said.
As for the matter of debate, it uses the case of the Lion Air plane crash with the Jakarta-Tanjungpinang flight route which occurred on October 28, 2018.
Participants/teams consist of 5 students, who will be drawn face to face. Can be an applicant or a giver of information (DPR and the President). For judges from the jury, clerks, oaths and trial committees. “What is special, this competition will be broadcast live via video conference by the Constitutional Court, to all universities in Indonesia that have collaborated with the Constitutional Court,” he added.
The mood court competition held by the Constitutional Court is divided into three regions, namely the western, central and eastern regions, each region is taken by four teams to enter the final round which was held at the Jakarta Constitutional Court on November 13-16, 2019. “This is the first time the UMS team has entered the competition elimination. national level mood court. We will try our best, hoping to qualify for the final,” said Ihsan.
