Researching the Issue of Customary Land Rights, Achmadi Earned a Doctorate in Legal Science from UMS

The Graduate School of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (SPS UMS) has again graduated a doctoral student in law, namely Achmadi, S.H., M.H. from the University of Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya through an open session, at the UMS Postgraduate Building, Wednesday (07/10/2020).

Achmadi in his dissertation took the title “Legal Culture of Conflict Resolution of Customary Land Rights”. He took the research location in Lamandau, Central Kalimantan, precisely in the Dayak Tomun tribe. The issues highlighted are related to customary land rights conflicts that occurred in Central Kalimantan.

Achmadi hopes that his dissertation will receive recognition, in the form of a simple conflict resolution. “The settlement is also a touch of culture, culture can also be said to be a very humanist way of punishing society. From some findings in the field, it turns out that the basis of local wisdom is very interesting in resolving conflicts, starting from finding the values ​​of local wisdom, elaborating, and implementing the functions of customary law,” explained Achmadi after conducting his Open Session.

Achmadi also hopes that the community at large will be serious in recognizing customary land rights, he also appreciates those who are serious in recognizing customary land rights. One of the things he appreciated was the drafting of the Indigenous Law Community Bill by the DPR, although he was of the opinion that the draft bill was premature.

“Still need additional value or need to consider other legal products that are more relevant to the rights of indigenous peoples from generation to generation,” continued Achmadi.

Achmadi graduated with a doctorate in law from the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta with a score of 3.78 and cum laude predicate. With this, he officially holds the title of Doctor (Dr.).
