The Doctoral Program (S3) in Law at the Graduate School of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta again graduated doctoral students through an open exam on Thursday (23/09/2021), blended in the UMS Postgraduate Seminar Room and online through Zoom Meetings and YouTube TV UMS Channel.
The student who took an open examination on Thursday (23/9), or commonly known as promovenda, was named Aida Dewi, with a dissertation title: “Legal Protection for Victims of the Crime of Rape (Study on the Application of the Principles of Substantive Justice).
The atmosphere of the exam this time was a bit different, because the promovenda before presenting the results of the research that had been found, was stopped for a while. His voice was hoarse, the atmosphere was still. This is because, he remembered his mentor and father who had passed away to Rahmatullah. After a 5 minute interruption, promovenda resumed its presentation smoothly.
In the research presented at this open trial, Aida discussed cases related to sexual harassment, obscenity, rape of children and women which are very widespread and increasingly concerning.
“This condition is due to the absence of full protection for rape victims, both psychologically and physically, which makes the victim’s situation worse,” explained Aida.
He added that besides that, the laws and regulations against the perpetrators have not provided a sense of justice for the future of the victims who have been torn to shreds.
The lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Widya Mataram University, Yogyakarta, hopes that after getting his doctorate, he will continue his studies until he becomes a Professor in the field of Law.
“I will dedicate my knowledge in the world of education and I will put it into practice in the work that I am involved in, and after this I will conduct research in the hope that I can continue as a professor,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Dr. Sofyan Anif M.Si, said that in this graduation process students get other alternatives, other than an open trial.
“In addition to conducting an open session, students can also choose alternatives for Scopus indexed international publications,” said the Chancellor of UMS.
On the same occasion, Aullia Vivi Yulianingrum was also inaugurated as a Doctor in Law. He obtained this degree through publications of international repute.
